About Pedro’s Background + Research Interests:
After graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a B.S. in Molecular Biology Pedro worked as a researcher at UC San Francisco and the start-up Mammoth BioSciences. His research focused on genomics and developing CRISPR gene-editing tools for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. At NYU Pedro hopes to complement this background as an experimentalist with the skills of a data scientist in order to continue exploring solutions to human problems across a variety of domains. He is particularly interested in using these new skills to investigate social disparities in health, education, and policing through a holistic and quantitative lens.
Life Outside Academics:
He enjoys cycling, playing jazz piano, and cooking. Pedro was born and raised in Chicago, and is excited to be relocating from Oakland to New York City for the next chapter in his career.
