Company information sessions are a core aspect of our student career development efforts. Sessions are a central way for students to learn about data science initiatives at relevant companies and meet representatives to potentially network with. Our recent lineup of sessions have been with companies from a range of different industries, reflecting the flexibility and diversity of opportunity within the data science field. We recently held remote informational sessions with representatives from PwC, the Philadelphia Phillies, and Infinitus.

PwC, PricewaterhouseCoopers, is a multinational professional services network of firms, ranking as the second-largest professional services network globally. It is considered one of the Big Four accounting firms alongside EY, Deloitte, and KPMG. The session was hosted by Talent Acquisition Manager, Jasmine Henry, who gave a thorough presentation on PwC’s business model, particularly on how they’ve transitioned from a services business to a products and services business, and now a products, services, and managed services business. The presentation also covered the role data science plays in their current objectives. Most importantly, she highlighted current opportunities at PwC that might interest our students including client service internships and full time associate positions.

For most, the Philadelphia Phillies likely require no introduction, but for those who are not familiar, the Phillies are a professional baseball team based in the city of Philadelphia. Patrick McFarlane, their Assistant Director of Baseball Research & Development, discussed a bit about how their R&D team is structured, the role data science plays within their organization, which is often heavily focused on maximizing win probability, and current opportunities they’re hiring for, which include Quantitative Analysts and Software Engineers positions.

Infinitus is a startup that develops voice robotic process automation tools, with the objective of using AI and NLP to improve efficiencies in the healthcare space. (CDS alumna Yada Pruksachatkun is currently ML Technical Staff at Infinitus.) The session was held by Arushi Raghuvanshi, Infinitus Staff Machine Learning Engineer. The session explained the current role that Infinitus plays in the healthcare industry and some recent exciting projects they’ve led such as assisting VaccinateCA to improve coverage of COVID-19 vaccination sites by automating calls to 2500 pharmacies per day. Most notably, Arushi and her colleague, Data Analyst Colton Juliano covered a bit about roles the company is actively recruiting for such as NLP Engineer and Data Analyst positions.
