Meet the Fellow: Elisha Cohen

Meet CDS Faculty Fellow Elisha Cohen, who will be joining us this fall. Elisha graduated in 2022 with a PhD in political science from Emory University, where she studied political methodology with a focus on gender, race, and inequality in the United States. She previously earned a master’s in Economics from Hunter College CUNY and a bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Elisha’s research interests are in political methodology, discriminatory selection processes, politics, and inequality. Her paper “Counterevidence of crime-reduction effects from federal grants of military equipment to local police,” was published in Nature in 2020 and her work on “Do Officer-Involved Shootings Reduce Citizen Contact with Government?” received placement in the Journal of Politics in 2019.
Elisha’s teaching experience at Emory as a course instructor and a teaching assistant focused on causal inference and R programming. Her teaching interests encompass political methodology, applied statistics, and algorithmic fairness.
“I am excited to be joining NYU’s CDS where I can continue to work at the intersection of social science, applied statistics, and data science,” said Elisha. “I am looking forward to being part of the CDS community where I can continue to develop new methodological approaches for assessing fairness.”
