Meet the Faculty: Sidharth Sah
This entry is a part of our Meet the Faculty blog series, which introduces and highlights faculty who have recently joined CDS.
Meet CDS Clinical Faculty Sidharth Sah, who will join CDS this fall as Clinical Assistant Professor. Sah recently completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Chicago, where his research focused on the economics of education.
“I’m excited to teach the causal inference class,” Sah said. “As an undergrad and grad student, that’s what I enjoyed learning about the most.” He’ll also be teaching an introductory data science course for non-majors.
During his doctoral studies, Sah explored synthetic controls, which he characterizes as machine learning applied to causal inference. His applied approach to research aligns well with CDS’s emphasis on working directly with data. “In my own research, I was very applied. I would work on data very directly, without relying on complex models,” Sah explained.
Prior to his PhD, Sah was a Stanford Law Empirical Research Fellow working for John Donohue. He also gained experience as a Research Intern at the American Enterprise Institute in 2016, where he utilized Stata to analyze large loan datasets and created heat maps using ArcGIS for a paper on government lending practices.
Sah’s background includes a stint as a Research Assistant at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Applied Economics. There, he published a working paper on the currency boards of Barbados and Trinidad, contributing to the institute’s investigation of currency board effectiveness.
As for what drew him to CDS, Sah said he loves to teach. “I also think data science is a good fit coming from an econ background,” he said.
