Google Fellow Profile: Nan Wu
Google is pleased to announce the recipients of the Google PhD Fellowships for 2020. These awards have been presented to exemplary PhD students in computer science and related fields.

Meet Nan Wu, a PhD CDS student who is the recipient of 2020 Google PhD Fellowship, in Machine Perception, Speech Technology and Computer Vision.

About Nan Wu’s Background
Prior to joining NYU, Nan earned a B.S. in Statistics and B.A in Business Administration from the School of Gifted Young, University of Science and Technology of China. For her undergraduate thesis, Nan worked on neurofeedback platforms with predictive models to assist in reducing cue-reacted nicotine craving.
Current Focuses and Research
At CDS, Nan works with Professors Krzysztof J. Geras and Kyunghyun Cho on deep learning and medical imaging. Their research centers on both application and theoretical learning problems related to breast cancer screening. Currently she is focusing on improving deep neural networks’ performance when multiple input modalities are involved.
Outside of Research
Nan has broad interests and is usually open to embrace any new ideas or activities. During her undergraduate study, she has been a captain of a soccer team. Now she is a big fan of Marie Kondo and is building up her own life-organizing philosophy and methodology while helping her friends to get organized.
