CURP Welcomes Second Cohort this Spring
CURP, the CDS Undergraduate Research Program, will welcome its second cohort when the program returns for Spring 2022 next week. CDS initially launched CURP in Spring 2021 in collaboration with the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP). This year, CDS has partnered with Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences to offer more mentors from a wider range of research areas as well as a greater number of computing and research projects.
The program is designed for a diverse group of undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of two years of university-level courses and are interested in conducting research in computing and data science. Ultimately, the program aims to provide these talented students with meaningful mentorship and research opportunities that will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to successful research collaborations. Each student receives a $3,500 fellowship award for their participation in the program. Some topics of research that the CURP cohort will work on include the following: Deep Learning Models for Classifying and Hanging Radiology Images, Domain Specific Concordance AI Systems for Healthcare, Harnessing Machine Learning to Decode the Dark Matter of the Genome, Robot Adaptation from Pixels, and Task Representation in Virtual Reality.
“I am really excited for the opportunity to provide practical research experience to students through the CURP program. I look forward to working with CURP students again this spring,” says second-time CURP Faculty Mentor and CDS Faculty Fellow Elena Sizikova.
We are particularly grateful to our sponsors Capital One, DeepMind Technologies, and Moody’s, for their support in making CURP possible.
