Celebrating the CDS Class of 2020

2 min readMay 18, 2020

Spring is a special time for many reasons. The weather warms, the sun comes back out, and flowers begin to bloom. Here at NYU, we are used to the annual buzz of excitement that comes with the approach of graduation. This year, however, we can’t quite celebrate this momentous event in our students’ lives as we usually would. That’s why it was so important to us at CDS to take the time to write this message to the graduating class of 2020.

From the time you got your acceptance letter to the last assignment you turned in, we have been with you, cheering you on. We hope you look back on your time at CDS and NYU fondly. And not just about the things you learned in the classroom but also the people you met, and the connections you made on and off-campus. New York is the capital of the world, as they say, and we hope you savored every minute of your time here.

Now that you’re leaving CDS and about to face a brave new world, we have the utmost faith that you’ll put all you’ve learned and all your talents into the amazing adventures you’re about to embark on. And though we can’t physically come together at Yankee Stadium this year, CDS hopes you and your loved ones tune into the virtual celebration for graduates hosted by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences on May 18th. While it can’t and won’t replace a commencement ceremony, we hope it will provide an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the astounding achievements you’ve all made. We also hope you participate in the CDS graduation celebration on May 19th.
