CDS Introduces Industry Concentration to MS Program
CDS is excited to announce that we have added the Industry Concentration aspect to our Master’s program. This concentration is specifically designed and targeted to respond to the needs and inputs from companies and gives our MS students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills acquired in their coursework to industry.
“Our students are brilliant and ambitious, and deserve great jobs when they complete their studies. Our new Industry Concentration reflects our desire to help them find and qualify for those positions, while they learn more about how data science ‘works’ in the real world. We think this is especially valuable for students coming from overseas, who want to build networks quickly and contribute to this fast-growing sector of the US economy”, says Arthur Spirling, CDS Deputy Director and Director of Graduate Studies for MS Program.
Requirements
The Industry Concentration requires more industry-targeted coursework as well as a Practical Training experience. This concentration also includes a mandatory internship within the first year of study, which provides students with the benefit of early exposure to data science in industry.
Students in this concentration will additionally be required to take the following courses for the degree as a part of the 36 credit requirement:
- DS-GA 1009 Practical Training for Data Science within the first year of the program.
- 2 electives within the Big Data or Natural Language Processing subject areas (6 credits).
International students should consult NYU’s Office of Global Services on how to obtain early CPT status within their first year if in this concentration.
