CDS Faculty Kyle Cranmer Elected as Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS)

Congratulations to CDS associated faculty Kyle Cranmer! Kyle was recently elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). The fellowship was created to recognize members who have either made advances in physics through the publication of original research or made significant innovative contributions in the application of physics to science and technology. It is a distinct honor awarded to less than a fraction of APS members.

The American Physical Society cited his commendation for developing a framework that enables collaborative statistical modeling, which was used successfully in the search for the Higgs boson and the measurement of its properties.

About Kyle:

Kyle Cranmer is the Executive Director of the Moore-Sloan Data Science Environment at NYU, a member of the CDS Advisory Committee, and Professor of Physics and Data Science at NYU. His research interests lie at the intersection of physics, statistics, and machine learning. More specifically, he is interested in developing machine learning models imbued with physics knowledge, generative models in the physical sciences, and the integration of reproducible workflows in the inference pipeline. His current projects include the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, a general-purpose detector to investigate a wide range of fundamental particle physics.
