CDS Co-Sponsors 38th PolMeth Conference

2 min readJul 27, 2021

Everything that we do at the Center for Data Science involves collaboration. And creating environments where minds from different domains can come together and share their insights is vital to that collaboration. It is with this in mind that CDS co-sponsored the 38th Society for Political Methodology Annual Conference (or PolMeth) along with NYU’s Department of Politics and the Center for Social Media and Politics.

The Society for Political Methodology exists to “facilitate and further the academic endeavors of its members, including the production and dissemination of their research, the enhancement and reach of their pedagogy, and the quality and quantity of their service in political methodology.” PolMeth, which took place last week, serves as a yearly opportunity for researchers in the field of politics and technical fields such as data science and statistics to convene and exchange ideas.

Over the four day conference, over 20 sessions were held, including a panel featuring CDS Faculty Fellow Sarah Shugars. The panel focused on a paper they co-authored titled “Curation Bubbles: Domain Versus URL Level Analysis of News Sharing on Social Media ‘’ which studies what kinds of news content demotratic citizens are exposed to and what kinds of news those citizens decide to share.

The complete program for the conference along with zoom recordings of the panels can be found on the PolMeth webpage here. We at CDS are so grateful to have had the opportunity to make Polmeth XXXVIII a reality and look forward to the exciting research to be presented there in the years to come.
