CDS, in collaboration with our partner Capital One, jointly held the Capital One/CDS CURP Information Session on April 9, 2021 via Zoom. CURP is the CDS Undergraduate Research Program in partnership with the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP). The event was hosted by Capital One machine learning engineers Anirudh Sridhar and Rachana Balasubramanian and facilitated by CDS staff members Riya Sarkar, research scientist and Loraine Nascimento, head of external relations & career development. In attendance were the students of the CDS Capital One CURP Spring 2021 Cohort.
Anirudh and Rachana spent much of the session providing valuable information about their experiences while undergoing Capital One’s internal Machine Learning program, diving deep into many of its benefits. The last segment of the event was devoted to answering questions posed by the attending cohort.
Here’s what some of the current CURP students had to say about the session:
“I would start by thanking all of them for giving their time to us and answering our questions. After the explanations were given, I saw what great opportunities Capital One provides for any person with a passion for research and modern technologies. I think it is great how they also require their employees to do real-world applications and not limit that just to researchers. I recommend anyone to expand their abilities by applying to their programs,” says Issac Lopez Diaz of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.
“It was refreshing how open and honest the panelists were about the skills required to work in industry as a data scientist,” says Isaac Robinson of Harvard University.
