Back to School for CDS

September is here, and with the dropping temperatures and changing of the season comes the beginning of our Fall semester. This summer many of us relaxed, regrouped, studied (for those who took our virtual offering of Data Science for Everyone) and worked diligently to create a framework for hybrid instruction this Fall.

In our first two weeks back on campus, we have seen not only the start of classes being simultaneously held in-person and online but the return of so many of CDS’s community events in new virtual formats. Our Moore-Sloane Brown Bag Lunch Seminar, MAD+ Seminar, and Text-as-Data Seminar are all among CDS weekly events that are returning. Over the course of the semester, these seminars will be leveraging their virtual format to invite guest speakers from institutions from across the country and across the globe.

We can also look forward to virtual events throughout the semester as well. The CDS Alumni Career Fair will be held virtually in October and will be happening alongside networking events for Fellows, PhD and Affiliate members such as PhD bi-weekly coffee hours! This goes the same for CDS’s student groups who will be continuing their work during the Fall term online.

While this semester will look much different than the ones we’ve had in the past, it is exciting to see our community return to their studies and research both on campus and from home.
